Kirstenbosch - 17 September 2013

It was to be hoped that Spring was well on it's way, however, that was not to be.  The wet weather was still with us, but luckily was only light, driven by a breeze.
Kirstenbosch One of Kirstenbosch's voluntary guides, Jill, welcoming the group, and describing the interesting  approach she took to the theme - 'A mouse, a fly and an ant walked into a bar'
The theme dealt of course with pollination and the various methods shown by various species to achieve reproduction.   We looked at the adaptations of various species to their particular means of pollination.
Jill pointing out the structures on the 'Mandela's Gold' strelitzia, and how pollination happens

An enjoyable, although a little wet and chilly morning, was ended with light refreshments in the restuarant.  Thanks to those who arranged the visit, and especially to our guide, Jill.
